McKenzie Mountain Whiteface Mountain Whiteface Mountain One of the most well known cross-country trails in the Adirondack region is the Jackrabbit Trail. It spans 35 miles and connects Paul Smiths, N.Y. to Saranac Lake, Lake Placid, and Keene. The uniqueness of this trail is the European style (designed with stops along the way) and gives skiers an opportunity to enjoy skiing while visiting different towns. Along the way are three ski centers; Whiteface Club, Lake Placid Resort, and Cascade X-C Ski Center. McKenzie Mountain is a 3,861-foot mountain summit in Essex County. The attractiveness of the area is enhanced by the excellent views that may be obtained from the top of McKenzie Mountain and Moose Mountain. There are also numerous spring-fed brooks, mostly on the north slopes of the area. There are two trails to the top. One begins at the Jackrabbit Trail, that runs between Saranac Lake and Lake Placid. The other leads from the Lake Shore Path to the summit. The mountain was formerly known as Saddleback, due to its shape. Whiteface Mountain is the fifth-highest mountain in New York State, and on of the High Peaks of the Adirondack Mountains. Set apart from most of the High Peaks, the summit offers a 360-degree view featuring the Adirondacks and perhaps on a clear day glimpses of Vermont and even Canada. The mountain is home to a ski area with the highest vertical drop in the eastern United States (3430 feet). Whiteface Mountain has plenty of challenges for any level of skier and snowboarder. Marina of Lake Placid Lake Placid Marina, on Lake Placid, is a full service marina which offers a wide range of amenities and services including public boat launches, storage facilities, docks, and one hour long narrated cruises on scenic Lake Placid in an enclosed tour boat. Main Street, Lake Placid
Main Street in Lake Placid has a variety of shops, antique stores, restaurants, and much more. Enjoy a massage at a day spa or pamper yourself with a manicure or pedicure. Take in a movie at the beautifully restored Palace Theatre and then choose from the many unique restaurants for dinner. Adirondack Mountains
The Adirondack Mountains are contained within the 6.1 million acres of the Adirondack Park. The park contains thousands of streams, brooks and lakes, most famously Lake Placid, adjacent to the village of Lake Placid, two-time site of the Olympic Winter Games, the Saranac Lakes, favored by the sportsmen who made the Adirondacks region famous, and Raquette Lake, site of many of the first Great Camps. The Adirondacks region, which runs through ten counties covering more than 9,400 square miles, is circular in outline and dome-like in appearance. It is comprised of hundreds of peaks and foothill, with more than 40 summits higher than 4,000 feet. Whiteface Inn Golf Course Whiteface Inn Golf Course is one of the best courses in the north country. This scenic course has narrow fairways and was built on rolling hills. The 18-hold features 6,490 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 72 and it has a slope rating of 123. Designed by John Van Kleek, the Whiteface golf course opened in 1898 and is one of this country's oldest golf courses. Jackrabbit Trail
